Celtic Gaul Senones Potin Unit Ancient Coin c.100-50 BC 17mm

An original ancient Celtic potin unit of the Senones tribe of Northwest Gaul, dating to approximately 100–50 BC.

This fascinating pre-Roman coin features the highly stylised imagery characteristic of Celtic coinage from Gaul.

The Senones were a Celtic people of ancient Gaul, and coins such as this circulated during the final century of independent Gallic culture before Roman domination.

Condition

Good ancient circulated condition with clear and attractive surviving designs.

The stylised head remains particularly bold, while the reverse horse and surrounding elements are also clearly visible. There is general ancient wear, surface texture and an irregular cast flan consistent with the type.
