Christopher Dresser Benham & Froud Brass Charger c1885 Arts and Crafts

A striking Arts & Crafts brass charger designed by Christopher Dresser and produced by Benham & Froud around 1885. This decorative charger features a finely engraved sunflower motif with stylised leaves and geometric borders, reflecting the distinctive design language of the late Victorian Arts & Crafts movement.

The sunflower design was a popular decorative element of the period and appears frequently in Christopher Dresser’s work. Crafted in brass with a warm golden tone, the charger was intended for display and includes a hanging loop to the reverse.

A classic and collectible example of 19th century Arts & Crafts metalwork, ideal for wall display or as part of a decorative antique collection.

Condition: Good antique condition consistent with age. (unmarked) The brass shows natural patina, surface marks, and areas of wear typical for an item of this age. Some small spots of oxidation/verdigris and minor discoloration visible to the surface. The reverse shows age-related wear and oxidation. It has a plastic cover over the back, likely to help protect furniture and walls, as well as help with oxidation (common on any brass) No structural damage noted. The piece does look to have been polished previously, but not by me. It may or may not benefit from a polish depending on individual preference.
