Galerius Roman Follis VIRTVS EXERCITVS Antioch AD 307-309

An original ancient Roman bronze follis of Emperor Galerius, struck at the Antioch mint circa AD 307–309.

The obverse features a strong laureate portrait of Galerius with much of the surrounding imperial legend surviving.

The reverse depicts Virtus in military dress, accompanied by the VIRTVS EXERCITVS legend. The Antioch mint mark is visible in the exergue.

A particularly attractive Roman coin with a strong portrait and well-preserved reverse design.

Condition

Good ancient circulated condition.

Strong portrait with considerable facial detail remaining and a well-defined reverse figure. There is general surface wear, patination, deposits and encrustation consistent with age and burial. Much of the lettering remains visible on both sides.
