Roman Gallic Empire Victorinus Antoninianus Coin AD 269-271

An original Roman antoninianus of Emperor Victorinus, dating to approximately AD 269–271 and issued during the period of the breakaway Gallic Empire.

Marcus Piavonius Victorinus ruled the Gallic Empire during the turbulent Crisis of the Third Century, when parts of Gaul, Britain and neighbouring territories had separated from central Roman authority.

The coin retains portions of its original ancient design despite considerable wear and corrosion. Victorinus antoniniani normally feature his radiate imperial portrait on the obverse, with numerous different reverse types produced during his short reign.

Condition

Fair/relic condition.

Heavily circulated and extensively worn with corrosion, surface deposits, edge losses and substantial cracking/splitting of the flan. Much of the original detail and legends have been lost, although portions of the ancient design remain visible.
