WW1 German Gold for Iron Medal 1916 Hosaeus Iron Token
An original WW1 German “Gold gab ich zur Wehr, Eisen nahm ich zur Ehr” medal, dated 1916, produced by Hosaeus. These medals were issued during wartime fundraising campaigns where civilians donated gold in exchange for iron tokens, symbolising patriotic sacrifice.
The obverse features a classical female figure offering jewellery, alongside the inscription “In eiserner Zeit” (In iron times). The reverse bears the well-known patriotic slogan and an oak leaf motif, representing strength and endurance. A meaningful and collectible piece of First World War German history.
